New year’s resolutions

This should have been an article on some of the most influential people in 2020, but I have been told that would overlap with what Julia is writing about – highlighting women in science.

Did I have a plan B? Not really.

The suggestion for me was to write an article about New Year’s Resolutions, and include something on snow, since that was what everyone seemed to be looking forward to. Here you go: my moderately organized article brainstorm.

–          Resolutions for everyone

A list of some never-before-seen New Year resolutions: exercise more; lose weight; get organized; learn a new skill; save more money; read more, …

Write them down on colorful post-it notes, put them above your desk or someplace visible, so you are reminded of your goals every day. Alternatively, keep a diary on how you are progressing.

If you suspect me of stealing that from a generic internet site, you are definitely on the right track.

Brainstorming potential article material further, I came across a New York Times article that gives us some more inspiration. The article suggests downsizing the resolutions you made for 2021, in order to make them more achievable. That idea, I am sure, is also completely new to you. So, I decided not to go into that either.

–          Medical student specific resolutions

Perhaps that could be a good idea, let’s see what I can come up with.

Procrastinate less; keep on track with the cases; actually watch the preparation videos for Skillslab; be on time; don’t start the assignments last minute.

–          My personal New Year resolutions

I thought you might be interested. See the previous list.

–          A resolution, finally

I do have one resolution I believe everyone should keep in mind (or add to their list). And, what is more, it includes the idea to write about snow.

I understand how, in a way, a new year can represent a new beginning, even though I personally think it is a bit optimistic to expect (that many) changes to happen so drastically. If it makes it easier for some people to make January the starting point towards whatever it is they want to achieve, then why not? Perhaps it is a good idea for me to also come up with one resolution, which I believe should be implemented as soon as possible. A more sustainable lifestyle.

I realize I promised to mention snow in this section as well. Be it correlation or causation, I will let you make the link to the proposed resolution yourself.

This could also be interesting!
